Day 2

Morning
There was a fire on one of the small arc furnaces over night. We spent the entire morning trying to find out what was wrong. First, we went out and looked at the top of the furnace where the stinger comes into the lid. Tony pulled up the plans and got prints out at drafting. We drove out and got them. They showed that the stinger most likely arced to the lid. Conductive hydrolic lines gave the current a path to ground and caught fire.

Afternoon
We attended a meeting to report on the cause of the fire. After that we went across the street to the electron beam furnaces. I got to take a look at S8, the unit I'll be working on. It was fun to see the different type of technology.

Day 1

Morning
I spent the morning in the visitor center filling out paperwork and doing computer based training. Not really much to report. There are six Mecop's at Wah Chang, five starting spring term. I'm the only electrical (big surprise). I can't get my boots yet because I have to wait for a voucher.

Afternoon
Tony showed me around some more of the areas. I got on the computer and set up some things like email, web, etc. We went to the stock room and snagged a hard hat and safety glasses.

Day 0

Tony invited me on a tour at the plant today. The melting department is on a shutdown, so I got to see the plant without the union workers and activity. First, Tony drove me around the entire plant so I could see all the departments. After lunch we went around the melting department looking at the equipment. It was a lot to take in, but I enjoyed learning the process for making the metal ingots. It should be a fun place to work.
